Aliens Slot Review

One of Net Entertainments biggest releases of 2020 was their videoslot “Aliens” in collaberation with Universal Pictures. The trend towards movie-themed slots is definitely picking up lately as we’ve seen a number of branded games hit the market in recent years. What sets these slots apart from others is their high production value, often including beautiful animated intro’s, amazing background graphics on bonus rounds and lots of other bells & whistles.

As soon as we fire up Aliens slot, we’re greeted with the signature music from Ridley Scott’s blockbuster released in 1979. It quickly becomes obvious that Netent went out of their way to make this videoslot as authentic as it can possibily be. The reels are filled with all sorts of alien creatures and symbols that many fans of the series will instantly recognize: the Hive eggs, a Weyland-Yutani corp logo (which substitutes as a wildcard) and of course the infamous Xenomorph alien.

In the special bonus round, players shoot their way through an infested space station and eventually will attempt to destroy the queen Hive by throwing grenades that do randomly multiplied damage. Should you manage to drain the entire health bar, you will be rewarded with a handsome 500x stake.. nice!

We start spinning by setting up the bet size at the lowest amount (15 cents) and use Netent’s auto-feature to play 1000 rounds. Our total investment of 150 euro’s should bring us at least a few big wins in the basegame and hopefully a couple of those special bonus rounds as well!

Our first feature after only ten spins

Just ten spins in, the feature triggers. We are taken to a special section of the game that feels like a level from a first person shooter. The goal here is to keep collecting ammo for your gun as you blast your way through waves of extraterrestial monsters, in an attempt to reach the queen of the hive.

It soon becomes obvious that this is no easy feet: ammo clips only contain one or two shots, and we need to survive 15 waves to reach the end. We weren’t quite so lucky and only managed to make it past wave 5. Our winnings: a measly 2 euro’s and 35 cents. After 1000 spins we manage to trigger the bonus 11 times, winning only pocket change. Adding everything up we’ve made a profit of 10 euro, not bad but certainly nothing worth bragging about.

Aliens slot has fun gameplay elements like the symbol overlay feature and the way the bonus is triggered (you have to fill up a meter by landing consequetive hits in the basegame), but the bonus seems to pay out mostly small wins. We did not manage to reach the queen hive yet, so perhaps that’s where you will find that Aliens slot can dish out bigger wins as well.

Conclusion

In our 1000 spin test we did get a couple of good wins from the symbol overlay, which occurs during the feature. If you manage to combine a good hit on the reels with one of the higher multipliers, there is definitely potential. But don’t expect anything big from the base game.
